Virginia is Professor of Surgery and Physiology in the College of Medicine, Mayo Clinic. She earned her Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She received her Master's of Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Miller is Director of the Mayo Clinic Women’s Health Research Center, Director of the training program Building Interdisciplinary Careers in Women’s Health and of the Mayo Clinic Specialized Center of Research on Sex Differences. Her research for the last 20 years has focused on how estrogen affects blood vessels. She has authored over 200 original publications and reviews. In addition to service on various grant review panels and editorial boards for scientific journals, she served as a member of the governing council for the American Physiological Society (APS) and was president of the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences (OSSD) from 2010-2012.
